Dear DC Comics,

Stop massacring Harley and Ivy's relationship. You love to broadcast that their relationship is so healthy and that it can survive anything... even Ivy cheating on Harley. But that's not a healthy relationship. If they love each other as much as you claim they do, Ivy never would have cheated on Harley, under the influence or not. Additionally, the way you handled breaking the news to Harley was so upsetting on so many levels. First off, it was so wrong, and very upsetting that Ivy knew what she did was wrong, and decided to keep it a secret from Harley instead of being an adult and telling her and asking for forgiveness. Secondly, the fact that Janet-from-HR was the one to break the news was upsetting as well. And then, how the news was handled was so unrealistic, even for the strongest of relationships. Having Harley and Ivy just laugh it off was disgusting. Harley forgave Ivy way too quickly. As a huge Harley Quinn fan, I know her character well. She would have cried at hearing Ivy cheated on her and then kept it from her. She would have been so heartbroken and angry. She would have even tried to kill Janet for touching her woman. It was resolved way too quickly. There needed to be more depth and emotion. Ivy needed to apologize and beg for forgiveness. This is unacceptable and distressing to fans of their relationship. Because even if a relationship is strong, things like this can and will still fracture it. This is harmful to the LGBTQ community, as it perpetuates that gay relationships are toxic. It also feeds into the 'bisexual people are cheaters' stereotype. And by brushing the cheating under the rug so quickly, it also creates a harmful ideology that cheating on your partner is okay, and that you should forgive them easily and just be okay with it happening. Cheating is never okay. Never. But here you are promoting and romanticizing it.

Not to mention you're writing them so out of character. Ivy has always hated all human beings for destroying the Earth. But Harley has always been the exception. She loves Harley and only Harley. She only wants to be with her. Ivy never would have cheated twice. And saying neither Harley nor Ivy is jealous of each other having different sexual partners is so very wrong. Harley, for sure, would be jealous. She's always been a very jealous woman when it comes to relationships. She would not be okay with other people touching her woman. She would be pissed, and rightfully so. And she would definitely not be thirsting after another woman herself. Because when Harley loves someone, she wants them, and only them. Always has. Sure, she could find Althea pretty, but she wouldn't want to sleep with her. And she certainly wouldn't go out on a date with her. Additionally, Harley should be able to spot a toxic person by now after having been with Joker for so long. Althea is clearly very toxic, trying to kill Harley multiple times and hating her guts... but also "loving" her? It doesn't make any sense. She's just as toxic as Joker. So, why are you pitting her with someone toxic again? I thought we broke free from that? But I guess we're regressing, huh?

Neither she nor Ivy would be flirting so openly with other women. Or randomly kissing other women for absolutely no reason but to create further drama. Ivy's infidelity served no purpose in her story. All it did was cause unnecessary drama. The first time she did it, in the beginning of her solo run, was wrong too, even if she wrote a letter to Harley telling her what she did and saying, "She knows Harley would be okay with it." She absolutely would not have been. Once again, promoting cheating and making it seem okay. And Ivy never would have given Harley "permission" to sleep with another woman, "just as long as she doesn't fall in love." I can tell you think that makes them such a "power couple" and makes their relationship so strong. But it doesn't. It's unhealthy and is not something to promote. They used to be in an open relationship, and that was okay, because it was mostly behind the scenes. But when they became exclusive, that was a big step forward, and a huge win for Harlivy fans. But now we're... going backwards again? And putting them back... in an open relationship??? Why? When they were exclusive, that is when they were a "power couple." That is the Harley and Ivy relationship we all loved, cherished, and romanticized. Because it was healthy then.

As a huge fan of their relationship... when it was healthy... and as someone with Autism, the way you are handling Harley and Ivy's relationship is causing me so much distress. I can't even count how many times I've had big panic attacks and how many times I've broken down crying over how terribly you are writing them. Their relationship is so important to me, and I can't stand seeing you fuck it up. They are my comfort couple... or at least they were before all this shit. Their relationship used to make me so happy. It made me believe in true love and that some people are just meant to be. Their relationship also helped me discover my sexuality as a lesbian. But now, I can't even bring myself to keep reading their comics. It's just too painful for me. Despite all this, I'm still very attached to them. Which is why it bothers me so much and distresses me. I wish I could just not care anymore, but I'm just so attached to their relationship that I can't. I can't take this anymore. My health can't take this. I can't stand feeling sick to my stomach over how you are fumbling their relationship, and having random panic attacks out of nowhere when I'm trying not to think about them. And I know I'm not the only one who is upset about this. There are others who loved their relationship as much as I did, and are also disappointed and distressed with how they are being written.

I think I speak for all Harlivy fans when I say, this needs to stop. We want Harley and Ivy to have a healthy and loving relationship like they did before, where they only had eyes for each other. They need to cross over into each other's comics more often because they are girlfriends. And Janet and Althea need to go. It's extremely weird that Ivy keeps Janet around even after cheating on Harley with her. Janet genuinely serves no purpose to her story other than being a homewrecker. So why is she still there? When Janet moved out of Harley's apartment, her character should have been done and left behind. Harley and Ivy need to talk with each other and communicate better. No more secrets behind each other's backs, and no more cheating. Just undying love for each other. We will not stop fighting until you stop ruining one of your best fictional relationship's.

We demand that you retcon this cheating bullshit from canon and make Harlivy healthy again, because your fans are not happy. The fact that you even green lit this in the first place is astonishing. But we demand action. We demand better representation of the characters. And we demand a healthy portrayal of the beloved characters.

Sincerely,

Harlivy fans.
