Dear supporters,
After a long and arduous Public Hearing process Council voted AGAINST the townhouse development last night!

We want to acknowledge everyone who put their hearts and souls into defending the hospice, and the services we provide for patients and families in Vancouver. A great big THANK YOU to each and every one of you who signed this online petition!

We are incredibly proud to be part of such a dedicated and passionate community of supporters who not only built the hospice, but rallied together to protect and preserve it. Together, we clearly demonstrated a lack of community support for this project, which proved to be an important element in the decision-making process last night. Your voice really does matter, and in this case - it was heard and acknowledged by our elected officials!

We also want to express our sincere gratitude to City Councillors who wrestled with this difficult decision. We know that there is a very real need for affordable housing in our city, and we acknowledge the hard work Council is doing in trying to address this issue. In the end, Councillors weighed the need for hospice with the need for housing, and voted for a compassionate Vancouver that honours the sensitive nature & unique environment required for end-of-life and bereavement care.

After a bit of rest, we look forward to getting back to our primary work of providing the very best compassionate care for our fellow members of the Vancouver community. Should you or your loved ones need us, we are committed to being here for you - for many years to come!

With immense gratitude,
Stephen Roberts, VHS Board Chair
Simin Tabrizi, VHS Executive Director
