Char Dham Yatra happens every year in the summers in Uttarakhand, India in areas of Gangotri, Yamunotri, Badrinath and Kedarnath, which are considered to be holy places. Not only from India people from all over the world gather here to offer prayers and worship Gods and Goddesses. Due to lack of transportation in this area horses and mules are used to carry pilgrims and their heavy baggage on their backs. Most of the times horse and mule owners are either poor or ignorant so they end up torturing and exploiting these poor animals. Horses and mules have to pass with pilgrims and baggage on their backs through rough terrains and darkness or low light often whipped and beaten by the owners if they slow down or fail to do the task. Nalini Ma'am from We Save Furs reported that there are at least 40, 000 - 60,000 horses and mules used for this purpose( if not more). This is really sad torturing the poor beings and it must stop. This is the first petition regarding this issue. Please approach authorities with more petitions like this to end the cruelty on these poor and hapless animals stuck in a situation where they don't know what to do.
