Stop TikTok Protecting Hate Accounts While Punishing Trans Defenders

The Issue

TikTok claims to stand against harassment—but its moderation is actively protecting anti‑trans hate groups while punishing the very people they target. Trans creators report accounts that exist solely to bully, intimidate, and dehumanize them—yet TikTok consistently finds “no violations” and never bans these profiles. Meanwhile, trans users defending themselves or speaking about their lives are removed, banned, or shadowbanned under vague “bullying” policies. These double standards aren’t just frustrating—they’re dangerous.

openly call for trans people to die, label us “predators,” and brag about driving us toward suicide. Despite repeated reports, TikTok’s response is always the same: “No violations found.” These hate‑only accounts remain active indefinitely, while trans creators face suspensions and content removals for simply speaking up for themselves and their livelihoods.

Moreover, when one hateful account is flagged, the harassers spin up 10–20 new profiles from the same IP address. TikTok’s failure to block IP ranges tied to repeat offenders enables a never‑ending cycle of harassment.

We demand that TikTok:

Permanently Ban hate‑only accounts—immediately remove any profile whose sole purpose is anti‑trans harassment, without exception.
Block IP ranges associated with repeat offenders so they cannot create new bullying profiles.
Enforce its own policies by prioritizing identity‑based harassment reports with real human review.
Train moderators on anti‑trans hate tactics, including mass‑report campaigns and coordinated harassment.
Stop penalizing trans people for defending themselves or speaking about their identities.

Supporting Statistics:

A 2021 GLAAD study found TikTok to be the worst platform for LGBTQ+ safety among major social media apps.

The Anti‑Defamation League reports that 76% of transgender adults experience harassment online.
Trans creators regularly document being shadowbanned or suspended after reporting hate accounts—while those accounts remain active under new aliases.

Transgender lives are on the line. If TikTok won’t silence hate—even when it openly calls for our deaths—it is complicit in our erasure and harm. Sign now to demand real accountability, safety, and equity for trans creators on TikTok.
