Stop Theft of Southern Illinois Drinking Water!

The Issue

There is a recent, sudden effort from Paul Jacobs, Dale Fowler, Patrick Windhorst, and Mike Bost to combine dozens of water districts across 12 Illinois counties into the hands of ONE, private, FOR-PROFIT, company which would control the water of over one quarter of a million people. They can raise their own rates on Jackson, Alexander, Union, Franklin, Johnson, White, Hamilton, Gallatin, Saline, Pope, Hardin, Massac. Drinking water is a basic public resource and owned by the people. Stop this madness!

“Thank you for reaching out for my feedback on this petition. I oppose any forced consolidation or privatization of our water districts. I strongly support local control and believe decisions should be made at the level closest to the people affected. This petition appears to be in response to a meeting that was scheduled for last week which has since been postponed. That meeting was scheduled at the request of some water districts in Southern Illinois to discuss ways the districts could better work together. The purpose of the meeting was to consider the possibility of collaboration on obtaining grants and the feasibility of interconnecting water districts in the case of an emergency. The meeting was never designed to discuss consolidation or privatization. As a supporter of local control, I would not be in favor of the state requiring the water districts to consolidate or privatize.
