Stop the Yulin Dog Meat Festival in China to Protect Canine Life

The Issue

I, like millions of others worldwide, view dogs as more than just pets—they are valued members of our families who provide companionship, comfort, and understanding. It distresses me deeply to think of the Yulin Dog Meat Festival in China, where thousands of dogs, possibly many lost or stolen, meet a dreadful fate.
The Dog Meat Festival (狗肉节), also known as the Yulin Dog Meat Festival or Lychee and Dog Meat Festival, is held annually in Yulin, Guangxi, China from 21 June to 30 June. This event sees the brutal slaughter and consumption of dogs alongside lychees and other plants. It's an event that not only terrorizes dogs but also horrifies animal lovers around the globe. It's up to us, as fellow humans who believe in compassion and empathy, to raise our collective voice against this cruel tradition.
Ending the Dog Meat Festival is not only ethical but also aligns with public health interests. According to the Humane Society International, the consumption of dog meat poses significant risks to human health, including the transmission of parasites and infectious diseases. Moreover, the illegal transportation of dogs for the festival can further spread rabies and other diseases.
It's time for us to appeal to Chinese authorities with respect and mutual understanding, requesting them to end this festival once and for all, creating a safer and more compassionate world for animals. Dogs don't just bark, they communicate. They're sentient beings, and it's time we heard their cries. Pen the change. Sign this petition and let China know – dogs are friends, not food.
