The Issue

Our community in Wilton, CA, faces a significant threat that could forever change our way of life and the landscape we cherish. Golden State Energy's proposal to construct a sprawling solar panel and battery storage plant on a 1,600-acre site at Colony Road and Walmort—previously known for the lush Gallo Vineyards—puts at risk not only the rural charm of our area but also the health and safety of its residents.

This proposed development is set to dramatically alter the environment we call home. Our neighbors, friends, and the very wildlife and livestock that symbolize our community's rural spirit will be severely impacted. Horses that roam and graze on fields that define our agricultural heritage may no longer have the space to thrive. The fertile agricultural land that has sustained our local economy and lifestyle for generations is threatened with an industrial-scale project that offers limited direct benefits to our community.

Moreover, we are becoming increasingly aware of the potential hazards associated with large-scale solar and battery storage facilities. Scientific studies suggest that the Electromagnetic Fields (EMF) emanating from such installations can have adverse health effects on humans and animals alike. The long-term exposure to EMFs has raised concerns about everything from cancer risks to effects on neurological health—dangers we cannot ignore with our families residing mere feet from the proposed site.

Golden State Energy’s proposal is still in the early stages, and now is the time for us to make our voices heard, to stand up for our community's health, safety, and right to preserve the character of Wilton. This is not just about opposing a project; it's about advocating for a sustainable future that aligns with our community's values and well-being.

We urge Golden State Energy to seek alternative locations for their expansion that do not place such a profound burden on existing communities and to engage in meaningful dialogue with all stakeholders to explore renewable energy options that do not compromise public health or land-use priorities.

By signing this petition, you're helping to send a clear message that the residents of Wilton demand thoughtful consideration and inclusive planning for our environment and future. Please add your voice to ours, and help us preserve the community we love.
