Stop the Willow project

The Issue

The Willow project is a proposed oil drilling project on federal lands that could result in the loss of wetlands and habitat disturbances for polar bears and birds. The North Alaska Field Office of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service reports that the Willow Project “is not likely to jeopardize the continued existence” of polar bears and other vulnerable species. However, the project could result in the loss of polar bear habitat and harm essential wildlife habitat for polar bears, migratory birds, caribou, and other iconic species.

The Willow project is the single largest oil drilling project proposed on federal lands. In addition to the disruption the project would have in terms of polar bears and their habitat, it’s estimated that the project would add more than 250 million metric tons of carbon to the atmosphere over the next 30 years.

Polar bears are a vulnerable species, and their population is declining due to the loss of sea ice caused by global warming. We need to stop this. Sign the petition so others can raise awareness about the Willow project.
