Stop The Wickford Roundabout

Stop The Wickford Roundabout
The Issue
Edited to add: Their capacity to rally people to override those who do not agree is far greater than mine (1/13/25), for now. If we do not stand up, attend meetings, get involved, and speak out for change, then we get what THEY want.
Your 840+ voices (to date) apparently mean nothing to the NK Town Council.
This roundabout is not just Wickford taxpayer money, it's ALL of North Kingstown’s taxpayer money, and technically all of RI taxpayer's money.
Boston Neck Rd, Brown St, and W Main St are RT 1A...a state highway. Phillips St is RT 102, also a state highway.
Why was only the Wickford Advisory Committee (not the Wickford Merchants Association) approached? Why not all of Wickford?
Why not all of North Kingstown?
A few things of note...
LChange.org verifies the email addresses.
*Aug 17th, 2020 TC meeting
Greg Mancini/NKTC President:
"I will not cross the crosswalk at Boston Neck, I will only cross the crosswalk at Phillips." 2:19:44
(Where there is a stop sign).
*There are quite a few merchants, town employees, etc, who do not want a roundabout, but they cannot speak out for fear of reprisals against their (town) employment, businesses, etc. (ie: businesses who need planning/zoning permission, from the town, to make changes). These are things that I am hearing from people.
*The Independent Newspaper poll results - February 2021
Rhode Island Department of Transportation (RIDOT) revealed plans to turn the three-way intersection of Brown Street, Phillips Street and Boston Neck Road in Wickford into a roundabout. With the approval of the North Kingstown Town Council, the project was added to RIDOT's 2024 Fiscal Year plans.
Do you agree with this roundabout?

We have started a 'North Kingstown resident signatures' list, to at least make the NK people's voices heard. If you are an NK resident and would like your name on it, please tell me so at fatoldfarmwife@gmail.com (I know. 😄) Just include name, address, and note about the roundabout if you like, or I can pop over. Additionally, there are signature lists at the Eclectic Bungalow, and the Different Drummer, with possibly more stores coming.
It's probably a done deal, and that may be ok, BUT...concerns remain, and the majority were in the dark.
It is TIME to start paying attention to what is being done in this town!

ORIGINAL PETITION STATEMENT:
A roundabout at Boston Neck Rd, Phillips St, and Brown St has been approved for Historic Wickford Village by the North Kingstown Town Council, to be constructed, possibly in the summer of 2025. This roundabout is not necessary, not historic, will cause logistical problems for trucks and school buses (they'll be driving over it), will pose a considerably greater danger to pedestrians (people focusing on oncoming traffic will not be focusing on pedestrians), and will again hurt the bottom line of the Wickford Merchants. *The Wickford Advisory Committee (originally for 3 Stop signs/September 2020) is NOT the Wickford Merchants Association.
We the people would NOT like a roundabout in Wickford. Fix the signage posted at the curve (not a turn) from Boston Neck Rd onto Brown St (NOT a yield!), add a light, add stop signs, but no roundabout in Historic Wickford Village.
Please sign and share.
Thank you.
Edited to add: "Unbeknownst to NK Town Officials, RIDOT evaluated and committed to change the Brown St/Boston Neck Rd/Phillips St intersection FROM: Right-away/Stop/Yield TO: 3 Way Stop. Upon hearing of RIDOT’s plan, Greg Mancini and Ralph Mollis privately met with RIDOT officials leading to a roundabout with 3 crosswalks. Although RIDOT did not present their original plan to the Town Council, the Town Council approved RIDOTS revised plan.
IT’S WORTH NOTING that with any RIDOT plan, the Town Council can petition RIDOT to discard or revise the roundabout plan prior to the start of construction". (Rickey Thompson)
Summer 2025: The seawall construction continues, the municipal parking lot construction continues, new sidewalk construction on W Main St, and now a rotary... this is doing considerable damage to the businesses in the village. Ask them how they feel.
Proper signage:
LEFT TURN YIELD TO ONCOMING TRAFFIC, and maybe some more obvious lines
*Thank you for emailing the North Kingstown Town Council @ TownCouncil@northkingstownri.gov They NEED to hear the residents, business owners, pedestrians, visitors, and others who are against this roundabout, which seems to be the majority.
In the last 5 years there have been 4 accidents.
In the last 10 years there have been 18 accidents.
In the last 25 years there have been 32 accidents.(NKPD)
Minute 12:30ish
"The residents and businesses that showed up". 👈The problem.

Thank you!!
Ps...please feel free to NOT donate, it's not necessary or mandatory. But, thank you!! 😊
