In 2019 after a 31-year-long break Japan resumed the commercial hunting of whales. Under the pretext that everything would be for "research purposes" this industry has successfully hunted and killed almost 4500 whales in the last decade. Despite the beggings from numerous animal-rights organizations like Greenpeace or sea shepherd to stop their undertaking, the mammals are being hunted to this very day. There is no point in whaling anyway. Whale meat isn't even nutritious pretty much the only benefit it provides is high protein. Because of that, it has been regarded as a cheap source of protein in world war 2 and the time after. However, the consumption amounts to only 1% of what it used. And for that reason the industry relies heavily on subsidies. 

All in all, the whaling isn't just unnecessary it hurts the environment as well. Due to the lack of whales in Japanese waters the ecosystem is in danger. And it is not going to be just the Japanese waters either. The oceans are in a complex connection to each other. One can't simply flourish while another is dying. In order to prevent all that from happening we have to fight the cause. And since the world doesn't seem to care we have to do something ourselves. If we can gather enough votes we might be able to achieve things previously thought unimaginable.
