The Pflugerville City Council is considering a proposal that would close the existing Pflugerville Animal Shelter and join the Williamson County (WILCO) Animal Shelter as a partner. The city council will invest $2 million dollars into the expansion of the WILCO shelter and transfer all the animals from Pflugerville to the WILCO shelter within the next 18-24 months. Pflugerville will also contribute to operating expenses, averaging approx. $200,000 a year to the WILCO shelter. The residents of Pflugerville should have say in the decision to close the Pflugerville shelter as well as sending their tax dollars to another county. Outsourcing our city services is a slippery slope. If they feel they can do this with a city service that is heavily supported by the community, what is next? We want to stop the city council and keep our tax dollars and our city service in Pflugerville.
