Stop The Use Of Diesel Generators That Pollute Oakland Air

The Issue

The use of diesel generators in Oakland is exacerbating existing air pollution, specifically in historically redlined neighborhoods that already have the worst air pollution in the East Bay. These container sized diesel generators are currently being used to power commercial grow houses in Oakland's green zone for cannabis production and cultivation. At The Oakland Cannery, the building owners (Greensage,LLC) have 9 of these generators running 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and are refueled twice a day. They have been running since July of 2020. Prolonged exposure to diesel exhaust is extremely hazardous, and we are looking for unified community support to shut down these generators. We also want the city of Oakland and the Bay Area Air Quality Management District to regulate the use of diesel generators so this doesn't happen in the future. We're already in a climate crisis; if anything, we should be figuring out how to be less dependent on fossil fuels rather than recharging their use with a new industry.
