We, the undersigned residents of not just Lizella but Middle Georgia have serious concerns about the impact of the Quarry being proposed at the coordinates of US 80 and Girl Scout Rd in Lizella, Ga.

It is extremely concerning that a company of this magnitude is proposing to come the county within close proximity of so many homes and residents. Homeowners have been blindsided by our local leaders and need to show up and use those voices. 

Several serious environmental impacts to the community related to quarrying activities on and near such as vibrations, land degradation, land subsidence and landslides, water pollution, occupational noise pollution, and air pollution, will lead to health-related problems and loss of biodiversity.

Mining and quarrying can be very destructive to the environment. They have a direct impact on the countryside by leaving pits and heaps of waste material. The extraction processes can also contaminate air and water with sulfur dioxide and other pollutants, putting wildlife and local populations at risk. 

As a result, please consider this our official request that the Crawford County officials be required to request Georgia Department of Environmental Protection conduct a study AND hold a public hearing on the matter.

We ask that this hearing be held both in person (at a physical location near the address of the site) and additionally, that the hearing be accessible for public input virtually, as well.
