The Malinauskas government has pushed through plans to merge the University of Adelaide and the University of South Australia. Vice Chancellors and the state government see merging the two institutions as an economic opportunity to create a more 'competitive' university to attract more investment.

This is despite the fact that university management have refused to consult staff or students on the decision, and Malinauskas stating that he "reserved the right" to push the decision through regardless. If previous faculty mergers at both Universities are anything to go by, we can expect hundreds of staff to lose their jobs, and courses slashed.

Students and staff should reject education being modelled into a profit-making machine. Come to the forum where students and staff can discuss the merger openly and start fighting back!
