I, like many airport employees in Toronto, rely on the UP Express to commute to work. The fares are set to rise to $7.41 for a trip from Union to Pearson - an over 50% fare hike from the current fare and a shocking 111% increase from just one year ago. This is making it increasingly unaffordable for individuals who need this service daily.

The affordability of public transit is crucial not only for airport employees but also for maintaining a sustainable city with less traffic congestion and pollution. A study by Metrolinx found that every dollar invested in public transit increases GDP by $3 (Metrolinx, Benefits Case Analysis). Yet, these constant fare hikes are pushing people away from using public transport.

We understand that operational costs may necessitate some increases in fares over time; however, such drastic hikes are unjustifiable and place an undue burden on those of us who rely on this service most.

We urge Metrolinx and the Government of Ontario to reconsider this decision and work towards creating a more affordable transit system for all Torontonians. Please sign this petition if you believe in fair transit fares!
