The Issue

We all know that the dress code is very unfair, especially towards girls! This sexist rule is unfair, and needs to stop. Girls are being discriminated against while boys can get off easy. This petition is fighting against all of that.

Boys are being overlooked while teachers call out every girl. For example, there was a boy wearing a bright orange shirt (not Lanier brand), and a girl with a skirt over her leggings. Guess which one got dress coded. That's right, it was the girl! This is horrible.

First of all, it's middle school. A common reason for the 3-inch skirt rule is that seeing too much of a girl’s leg will "distract” people, particularly boys. Boys don’t actually care. Everyone is preoccupied by their own business. Not a single person will get distracted by someone's leg or shoulder. Secondly, we should pay a lot more attention to our academics rather than our clothes. The bottom line is, teachers have more important things to worry about, it's not a big deal, and it's SEXIST. Also, people with long legs have a harder time because their skirts look shorter. If you’re going to dress code one person, dress code the school.

It is also so embarrassing to get dress coded. I once watched a teacher dress code some girls(most of their skirts were even that high) right in front of a big group of boys. The boys started laughing at the girls and making fun of them. I just know that the girls were so embarrassed. If they are going to dress code people, at least do in private.

If you want to make a change sign this petition. You also might be thinking this won’t go anywhere and won’t change anything, but it will. If I get enough signatures i will personally email Ms Bolen about this issue. If it is out of her hands, I will go as far as I need to, even if that means taking our issue to the HISD board. Another concern I have heard is getting in trouble. I assure you signing the petition will not get you in trouble. After you sign this petition please share it with anyone who you think will sign. Please sign the petition, make a change, and support your community.
