We insist that the so called ”trash volcano” of Kalymnos will be stopped and proper waste management is put into practice immediately. 

For decades there has not been proper waste management on the island of Kalymnos, Greece, in  Europe. There’s an open dump site that burns releasing dangerous toxins and fumes to the air. The fumes have been told to cause even cancer. It is an environmental disaster: the burning of plastic waste, chemical waste and all waste is seriously harmful to the local environment as-well as people living in Kalymnos and neighbouring islands (Kos, Pserimos, Leros, Telendos) and to the air quality and carbon emissions of the entire EU. 

Vice did a documentary of the dangers of this burning illegal dump over 7 years ago and the situation is still the same:

Help us make this stop! Sign, share and spread awareness as widely as you can. The Kalymnian and Greek officials need to make the burning of rubbish at the Kalymnian trash volcano END IMMEDIATELY! 

The petition will later be handed to the officials of the municipal of Kalymnos and the Environment and Energy minister of Greece and the European Commission.

Επιμένουμε οτι: Το λεγόμενο υφαιστειο σκουπιδιών της Καλυμνου, πρέπει να σταματήσει αμεσα και να τεθεί σε εφαρμογή η σωστή διαχείριση των απορριμμάτων. 

Για δεκαετίες ολόκληρες, δεν έχει υπάρξει σωστή διαχείριση των απορριμμάτων στο νησί της Καλυμνου της Ελλάδας της Ευρώπης!

Η χωματερή σκουπιδιών, η οποία καίει ακατάπαυστα, εκλύει στην ατμόσφαιρα τοξικά αερια επικινδυνα για το περιβάλλον, την υγεία και προκαλεί καρκίνους!

Η καύση του πλαστικού, των χημικών υλικών και όλων των απορριμμάτων γενικοτερα, είναι πολύ σοβαρά επιβλαβής, όχι μόνο για τους κατοίκους της Καλυμνου αλλά και για τα γειτονικά νησιά, οπως: Κω , Ψεριμο Λέρο, Τελενδο.

Επισης υπογραμιζουμε οτι δεν ακολουθούνται οι ευρωπαϊκές προδιαγραφές για την ελάττωση των επιβλαβών εκπομπών ανθρακα.

Ζητάμε να παρθούν άμεσα μέτρα για την προστασία της υγείας των κατοίκων.
