To: BC Conservation Officer Service, City of Burnaby, Ministry of Environment and Climate Change Strategy

We, the undersigned residents and community members, urge you to immediately stop plans to trap and kill the black bear recently seen on Burnaby Mountain.

📍 This is not a threat—this is his home.
Those of us who live, walk, and hike on Burnaby Mountain do not feel threatened by this bear. We understand that black bears are shy, intelligent animals who are simply trying to survive in shrinking pockets of their natural habitat. This bear has shown no signs of aggression and has not harmed anyone.

Instead of killing him, we ask you to consider more humane, science-backed alternatives that reflect our community’s values and the bear’s right to exist.

We call for:

❌ Immediate removal of the trap currently set on Burnaby Mountain.
🐻 Non-lethal relocation and assessment by trained wildlife professionals.
📢 Community education and signage to reduce food attractants and promote safe coexistence.
🌲 Long-term investment in wildlife corridors and cohabitation strategies across the Lower Mainland.
💔 This bear is not the problem—habitat loss and urban expansion are. As residents, we want solutions that honour both public safety and the lives of the animals we share this land with.

✍️ SIGN THIS PETITION to show that Burnaby stands for coexistence, not cruelty. Let’s choose compassion and protect our wild neighbours—before it’s too late.
