Stop the Transportation of Immigrants to Guantanamo Bay

Stop the Transportation of Immigrants to Guantanamo Bay
The Issue
As someone who migrated to this country as a naive 9-year-old, I've witnessed the inhumane impact of unjust immigration laws first-hand. Many of my friends and family members have been on the receiving end of these laws, which have brought harsh and often undeserved consequences.
Now, there is a new concern. Immigrants, who have committed a civil infraction, are being handed over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). From there, they are sent to Guantanamo Bay - a facility best known for housing terrorists. In Guantanamo, detainees are known to endure divisions of human rights, often being subjected to inhumane treatment. This is an enormous punishment for a civil infraction, assessed without due process.
The situation is unnerving. Immigrants, like everyone else, deserve due process. They should not be categorized as terrorists nor sent to a facility built to contain such individuals. This practice stands in stark contrast to our country's fundamental values.
According to Human Rights Watch, "detentions at Guantanamo bay are arbitrary and violate both international human rights law and the United States constitution". This harsh treatment of immigrants deserves our urgent attention.
Sign this petition to call on U.S policymakers to immediately halt the practice of transporting immigrants to Guantanamo Bay. Stand for preserving human rights and due process. Your signature can help bring about a just change.
