I am a resident of Bells Corners in Ottawa, and I am deeply concerned about the proposal by the Ottawa City Council to transform Robertson Road. This proposed transformation threatens our community by negatively impacting local businesses, creating traffic chaos, and posing challenges for emergency response services.

Having lived in this area, I have seen firsthand the vibrant array of small businesses that rely on footfall and easy access. Transforming Robertson Road will likely result in a significant reduction in consumer foot traffic. Local businesses, which are the backbone of our community, depend heavily on people being able to reach them easily. Many residents and business owners have expressed their concerns to me about how this transformation might lead to decreased foot traffic and ultimately force some businesses to close their doors.

Moreover, the proposed changes could lead to increased traffic congestion, making it more difficult for both residents and visitors to navigate the area. The accessibility issues arising from this transformation also raise concerns about emergency services. There's a real possibility that emergency vehicles may find it more challenging to reach people in need in a timely manner, thereby compromising the safety of our community.

While improvements for bicyclists are important, it's crucial to note that bicycles are typically only used in these parts for around half the year due to weather constraints. This transformation plan heavily favors bicyclists at the expense of everyone else's uses for Robertson Road, which isn't practical for the majority of the year.

This proposal does not reflect the needs or opinions of the residents who live and work here. I have spoken to many of my neighbors and local business owners, and there is a clear consensus: this plan will make our lives harder, rather than easier.
