Birds are feeding on the fire-ants baits in the Currumbin Valley Queensland.

Hundreds of birds are falling from the sky in northern New South Wales and researchers cannot pinpoint why.

Feeding corn poisoned with Pyriproxyfen to cockatoos (Corellas) can be harmful and even toxic to the birds. Pyriproxyfen is an insecticide that can affect birds, especially when ingested in large quantities or over an extended period.

If cockatoos ingest Pyriproxyfen-poisoned corn, they may exhibit symptoms such as:

1. *Neurological signs*: Tremors, seizures, and loss of coordination.

2. *Gastrointestinal issues*: Vomiting, diarrhea, and abdominal pain.

3. *Respiratory problems*: Difficulty breathing, wheezing, and coughing.

4. *Immunosuppression*: Weakened immune system, making them more susceptible to diseases.

5. *Liver and kidney damage*: Prolonged exposure can lead to organ damage and failure.

In severe cases, Pyriproxyfen poisoning can be fatal.

If you suspect your cockatoos have ingested Pyriproxyfen-poisoned corn, please:

1. *Contact a veterinarian* immediately.

2. *Provide supportive care*,  and a safe environment.

3. *Follow veterinary instructions* for treatment and care.
