Every day, we are fortunate to witness the vibrant wildlife in Apex, North Carolina. Deer, coyotes, owls, hawks, rabbits, and woodpeckers are just a few of the creatures that call the green spaces around N Salem Street their home. These animals, along with the beauty and tranquility they bring to our community, are facing an imminent threat.

Just across from Thales Academy on N Salem Street, a large development of townhouses and apartments is on the brink of approval. This development not only threatens to destroy one of Apex's last remaining green spaces, but also plans to build on a known wetland and stream (see circled area on map). The environmental impact would be disastrous, displacing countless animals and irreparably damaging natural habitats.

Moreover, the planned development will exacerbate the already severe traffic issues on N Salem Street. It will introduce hundreds of additional vehicles to this two-lane road with no plans for new traffic lights or expanded lanes, creating significant safety concerns for drivers and pedestrians alike. 

This development will permanently change the landscape of Apex for the worse, and we cannot stand idly by as one of our community's last natural sanctuaries is gutted in the name of profit and urban sprawl. Instead of surrendering to this plan, it's time we unite for the sake of preserving our community's charm, biodiversity, and the safety of its residents.
