Stop the Tomsons Road BESS Project in Saugerties — No Battery Storage Facility Here
Stop the Tomsons Road BESS Project in Saugerties — No Battery Storage Facility Here
The Issue
We, the undersigned residents, call on the Town of Saugerties to reject the proposed Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) project on Tomsons Road and prohibit large-scale battery storage facilities in our community.
This is not a request for delay.
This is a demand to stop this project and prevent others like it.
The Tomsons Road BESS is an industrial energy facility that raises serious concerns about:
• Fire and explosion risk
• Environmental and water impacts
• Noise, traffic, and visual intrusion
• Property values and community character
Under the New York State Environmental Quality Review Act (SEQRA), the Town must take a “hard look” at impacts — but no amount of review changes the reality that this type of facility does not belong in Saugerties.
Our town is not a dumping ground for industrial battery infrastructure.
We demand that the Town Board and Planning Board:
❌ Deny any and all applications for the Tomsons Road BESS
❌ Refuse to approve any large-scale BESS facilities in Saugerties
❌ Amend the Town Code to prohibit BESS projects town-wide
At a minimum, if the Town refuses to take that step now, it must:
⏸ Enact an immediate moratorium on all BESS facilities
⏸ Halt all review, permitting, and approvals until comprehensive, enforceable standards are adopted and the public has had full opportunity to participate
This is about protecting our homes, our water, our safety, and our future.
📣 Sign this petition to stop the Tomsons Road BESS — permanently.
