Since January 2017 it has become illegal to have less than 70% window tint on cars. SUV's are legal no matter how dark, so why are passenger cars illegal, and how is it fair to make inspection stations the tint police? Reminds me of how restaurant owners became the Covid police!

Small window tinting businesses are suffering in NY. In addition, how can it possibly be legal for the rear window to be as dark as one wants (even spray painted), yet the side windows are illegal? Police in NY can ticket each window as well. So four windows total at $95\window. That's a $380 ticket! It's an equipment violation, no points, but still a nuisance.

Tint provides safety to those in the car! Would be carjackers think twice when they can't see who's in the car. Tint also protects the very expensive interiors. Many people have medical problems requiring reduced sunlight exposure (Migraines, Lasik eye surgery, skin sensitivity, and even allergies to light). Children ride in the back of the car in car seats/boosters and bright light can be harmful to small children as well. In addition, people invest a lot of money into their cars, and should be allowed to protect them as well as ourselves. The law should be simple. All vehicles with tint must put down all four windows for ALL traffic stops! Hands should be on the steering wheel in plain view, or placed outside driver's side window to make all officers feel safe during a routine stop.

This law was created to generate revenue. This has nothing to do with safety.
