STOP THE TELUS 5G CELL TOWER AT 8550 252ND STREET, LANGLEY, BC

STOP THE TELUS 5G CELL TOWER AT 8550 252ND STREET, LANGLEY, BC
The Issue
We, the undersigned, respectfully urge TELUS to reconsider its proposed 200+ foot tall 5G telecommunications tower at 8550 252 Street, Langley, and to engage transparently with our community to find a more suitable location.
The proposed tower's extreme proximity to the provincially recognized and protected McLellan Forest Nature Park and Blaauw ECO Forest raises significant environmental and community concerns that have yet to be addressed. We believe that this project, as currently proposed, is fundamentally flawed.
Our concerns are rooted in three critical areas:
Environmental Impact: The proximity of this large-scale project to a sensitive ecosystem in the ALR requires a rigorous Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA). TELUS’s representative has stated that an EIA is not required, dismissing our legitimate concerns for the health of a protected natural area.
Health and Safety: At just 60 meters from the closest residence, the tower’s location raises serious questions about public health and safety. We believe a precautionary principle must be applied to ensure the well-being of our families and their children.
Community Character: The proposed 62-meter structure is disproportionate to the rural landscape of Glen Valley and would permanently and negatively impact the aesthetic and integrity of our community. The tower is equal in size to a 20 storey apartment building.
Our repeated attempts to engage in a productive dialogue with Cypress Land Services have been met with a lack of transparency and a refusal to provide the essential technical information needed to explore alternative sites.
We call on TELUS to honor its corporate responsibility and to address our concerns by:
*Pausing the current proposal.
*Initiating a full and independent Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA).
*Providing the necessary technical documentation to allow for a meaningful, collaborative process to find a viable alternative location.
We believe that by working together, we can find a solution that meets TELUS's network requirements while protecting our community and the environment.
Please, act with respect and transparency.
