Stop the Targeting of California by ICE and Federal Leadership

The Issue

🎯 Target:

To the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, ICE Leadership, and Federal Policymakers.

📝 What We’re Asking For (Petition Goals):

We, the undersigned, call for:

  1. An immediate halt to disproportionate and politically-motivated ICE operations targeting Los Angeles and other California communities.
  2. A congressional review of ICE enforcement priorities and tactics under current directives.
  3. A public reaffirmation by DHS and the federal government that state and local jurisdictions, including sanctuary cities, are equal participants in federal governance, not adversaries.
  4. A national commitment to humane, lawful, and constitutionally sound immigration enforcement.
  5. Protection of peaceful protest rights and a clear distinction between civil dissent and criminal violence.

📜 Why This Matters:

As a legal permanent resident living in San Diego, I came to this country because I believed in its values: the Constitution, the rule of law, the promise of democracy, and the power of unity. Like millions of immigrants, I had to study the U.S. Constitution, prove my commitment, and earn the right to be part of this nation. That’s why the events unfolding in Los Angeles—and the federal response to them—fill me with concern.

In early June 2025, ICE carried out a series of aggressive and highly concentrated raids in Los Angeles, targeting immigrant communities with military-style tactics. These operations were followed by the deployment of National Guard and even U.S. Marines—not because of a credible threat to national security, but in reaction to community unrest, much of which was peaceful.

I want to be clear:

  • I support immigration law, and I do not excuse undocumented entry.
  • I support protest, but I reject violence that endangers others.
  • I respect our military, who answered the call to stabilize a volatile situation.
  • And I deeply believe in the promise of the U.S. Constitution, which every American leader swears to uphold.

But what we’re witnessing in California isn’t about law and order. It’s about political punishment. It’s about using federal power to make an example of a state that dares to do things differently. It’s about a former president—Donald J. Trump—who shows contempt for the Constitution and uses agencies like ICE as tools of retribution.

These actions do real harm, far beyond their stated goals. They:

  • Spread fear among legal and undocumented immigrants alike
  • Undermine public trust in federal institutions
  • Escalate protests instead of resolving root causes
  • Paint California as an outsider in its own country

Let me be absolutely clear: California is not the enemy.

We are not separate. We are not superior.

We are part of this nation—economically, culturally, and constitutionally.

And when federal power is used to target us, we all lose something as Americans.

I take pride in being part of this country.

I take pride in our military, our Constitution, and our shared ideals.

But I take no pride in what we’re seeing now.

This is a turning point. We need to demand better. We need to demand leadership that protects all Americans, regardless of immigration status, protest participation, or ZIP code.
