Stop the Storage Units on Brookville Road

Stop the Storage Units on Brookville Road
The Issue
Disruption to Rural Character:
We live on Brookville Road because it is peaceful, wooded, and removed from commercial development. This area is not suited for industrial or large commercial buildings. A storage facility violates the spirit and character of our neighborhood, which is defined by its quiet, rural atmosphere.
Traffic and Safety Hazards:
A facility of this size will bring significant increases in vehicle traffic, including commercial trucks and out-of-town renters. Brookville Road is narrow, wooded, and not designed to support high-volume traffic. Increased traffic poses a serious safety risk to local residents, children, and wildlife.
Environmental and Noise Pollution:
The proposed project would require the destruction of approximately 9 acres of pristine, wooded land — a devastating blow to local ecosystems, wildlife habitats, and natural stormwater absorption. Light pollution from the facility — even if placed on timers — will impact the surrounding environment and neighboring properties. Noise pollution is already a serious issue: work has reportedly begun well before 7:00 AM, disturbing nearby residents, farm animals, and the natural rhythm of the environment. This constant disruption affects not just humans, but local farms and sensitive wildlife.
Even more alarming is the threat to endangered and protected species, including the barred owl and the pine snake, both of which have been documented in this area. Destroying their habitat for commercial development is not only irresponsible, it may violate environmental protections.
Negative Precedent:
Allowing this project to proceed sets a dangerous precedent for further development in protected or residential-adjacent zones. It opens the door to additional commercial expansion in an area that should remain natural, agricultural, and rural.
We Urge You to Act:
If you share these concerns, please call and voice your opposition to Barnegat Township. Let them know that this development is not wanted, not needed, and not appropriate for our neighborhood. Your voice matters — help protect the land, wildlife, and peaceful character of Brookville Road.
