On Monday, June 24th, Irvine City Councilmember Tammy Kim and the Irvine Dog Parks Association held a "Listening Session" at the Cypress Village Community Center. Councilmember Kim opened the session by sharing a fond memory of her dog at Central Bark. The Director of Community Services, Chris Slama, then provided updates on recent dog park happenings, including the repaired shade structure and the upcoming replacement of two benches at Central Bark.
The session opened up for community members to voice their concerns and ask questions. A key takeaway was the confirmation from Councilmember Kim that Central Bark would remain open until the new dog park at Oak Creek Community Park is ready, with an estimated timeline of 6 months to 1 year. Due to the current condition of the grass at Central Bark, a request was made for its replacement, as it has been neglected for over two years.
Approximately 40 community members attended the session, along with a strong representation from the City of Irvine.
