Stop the Stink-Cease Operations at Zionsville Wastewater Facility, Reroute to TriCo
The Issue
The Zionsville Wastewater Treatment Facility, situated near the serene Starkey Park, has become a source of significant concern for our community. This facility has consistently demonstrated unsafe handling practices, overseen by managers and workers who lack the necessary qualifications. The result? Our beautiful Zionsville landscape is now plagued with foul odors and possible pollution of our land, air, and water.
These environmental hazards do not just tarnish the natural beauty of Starkey Park, the Village, and surrounding trails; they pose a serious risk to the health and well-being of Zionsville residents and the drinking water of a large portion of Marion County (Eagle Creek watershed). The foul smells reduce the quality of life, interfere with the peaceful right to enjoyment of property, while the possible pollution poses ecological threats, potentially harming local wildlife and vegetation.
We, the residents of Zionsville, call upon our responsible authorities to adopt a clear and logical solution for our community's wastewater management. We are not asking for a complex, new plan—we are asking for the efficient use of existing resources.
The Solution is clear and feasible: The nearby TriCo Regional Sewer Utility, conveniently located at 7236 Mayflower Park Drive, Zionsville, IN 46077 (In Boone County), is already equipped and capable of handling this wastewater. We propose the cessation of operations at the current Zionsville Wastewater Treatment Facility and the rerouting of these crucial services to the TriCo. TriCo boasts qualified engineers dedicated to environmental preservation. Their exemplary performance is evidenced by numerous awards, marking them as a reliable and environmentally conscious alternative.
This action is the fastest, most sustainable path to a cleaner and safer Zionsville.
By rerouting operations to TriCo, we can ensure that our wastewater management is handled safely, efficiently, and sustainably.
This move can protect our community, preserve our parklands, enhance our quality of life, and safeguard the environment for future generations.
TriCo’s efficient and well-established process can also keep utility rates stabilized for years to come.
Zionsville’s current plan includes a $21 million expansion, with no clear plans, timetable, or transparency of future rate hikes.
Let's stand together for a cleaner, safer, and more sustainable Zionsville. Sign this petition to make your voice heard and make a change for the betterment of our community today.
