We continue to advocate that raising the lower tax threshold is the best way to help support older people with the expected cost of living rises in the coming months.
In the meantime, sorry to trouble you but there are millions of older people in the UK not receiving the social care support they desperately need to live with dignity in their remaining years on this planet.

Politicians of all parties have ignored the decrepit state of social care in the UK for decades. According to Age UK nearly 30,000 older people died in 2024 while waiting for the social care support which could have extended their lives. Even when it is agreed, it may only be for a fleeting visit once a day.
When the Government took office it immediately ditched its promise to bring in a cap on the lifetime costs of care, to stop family homes being sold to pay for astronomical residential homes fees. And it is ignoring the 11% of hospital beds filled by older people who could go home if only there was social care support available. Instead it set up a Social Care Commission to look at the whole question of social care. This is a blatant delaying tactic because Labour has decided not to put any extra funds into social care until 2030/31!
Silver Voices is determined to expose this cynical behaviour and we have put a new petition on the official Government website calling for the Commission to be scrapped and urgent decisions taken on the crisis. We need to reach 10,000 signatures to get the Government to respond.
