STOP THE STAMP CREEK QUARRY
We need help to save our environment, wildlife, endangered/protected species and our community! The former Pine Log Wildlife Management area’s development plan has had a drastic change. Georgia Stone Company, a Cobb County based mining company, filed a Development of Regional Impact Application to pursue the rezoning and conditional approvals needed to establish a granite quarry.
The proposed site is 500-acres that is North of Stamp Creek Rd and East of Old Furnace Rd in White Ga (Bartow County).
We cannot let this happen as this will be detrimental to our environment and community. This property was zoned Agricultural and was state managed until 2023. In 2023 with great opposition, it was rezoned to low density residential for future use. The new area of the proposed quarry is A1. This is NOT a commercial or industrial area of Bartow County. This area is near farms, forest, residential homes and churches.
This site is encompassed by Stamp Creek and Davis Branch. Metro Atlanta gets 30% of it's drinking water from Lake Allatoona. Stamp Creek is the lakes ONLY pristine water source. The sedimentation from mining near Stamp Creek will further diminish the quality of the water.
At this time a zoning hearing has been scheduled for Dec 16th at 6:00pm.
Please sign our petition to STOP the STAMP CREEK QUARRY!
HOW WILL OUR ENVIRONMENT AND COMMUNITY POTENTIALLY BE AFFECTED:
- Disruptions to Stamp Creek and Tributaries
- Disruptions to Federally protected plant, aquatic, animals, and reptile species
- Truck traffic- estimated 450 trucks per day taken from their site (through Stamp Creek Rd impacting traffic on surrounding roads)
- Destruction of Native Wildlife habitat
- Radon Threat (2nd leading cause of lung cancer)
- Property Values - 5 mile radius can lose up to 20% of their property value
- Water resources - potential collapse of private wells by blasting pollutants into underlying aquifers
- Air and Noise Pollution
- Tremendous effects on Lake Allatoona
