Why this petition matters

Started by Steve Wolf

I purchased a home in Mira Costa Estates in 2020. Over the course of the two years, our family has lived here, I have witnessed dangerous driving on a daily basis on Cameo Dr. (where we live) this includes but is not limited to:

  • Running stop signs completely or partially along Cameo Dr.
  • Driving over the speed limit and in many cases doubling the speed limit
  • Accidents, mainly of vehicles hitting parked cars. (I have witnessed on first hand)
  • Animals, and pedestrians being struck by cars
  • Intoxicated drivers using Cameo as a route to avoid main roads in the early morning hours
  • Illegally parked vehicles with people living in their cars.

I have two small children and a dog. Every day I live with a fear of them being hit by a speeding car or one that ran a stop sign.

The city of Oceanside has been notified about this before around 2015 and did nothing.

Since then, more accidents have occurred, and after getting personal accounts from neighbors of accidents that have happened over the years, I felt compelled to do something about this and I need your help.

I have done some investigation on my own and found more than 20 documented incidents dating back to 2010. Pedestrians, bicycles, and parked vehicles being struck by intoxicated drivers, or people driving too fast and not obeying the speed limit or stop signs are all included in the documented incidents.

This is a situation where it is only a matter of time before someone's child, parent(s), or animal(s) will be severely injured if not killed in an accident.

If we can get enough signatures to show that there is a general consensus to lobby the city to make our neighborhood safer (i.e. speed radar, speed bumps, more police patrol etc), then I will take it upon myself to draft an official letter, compile the statistics (traffic incidents and police reports) as well as neighbors experiences and stories and get the issue in front of the Oceanside City Council.

In addition to signing the petition, if you have a personal experience to share or would like your story to be entered in with my letter, please email me at aefwolf@gmail.com and make sure to include your contact information so I can get the details of the occurrence.

Thanks in advance for helping make a neighborhood safer for our children and ourselves.
