After the natural gas pipeline explosion in Durham, N.C. on 4/10/19, it is is obvious that the safety assurances given by Virginia Natural Gas, the so called Independent Pipeline Professionals, The State Corporation Commission, DEQ, the city staffs of Chesapeake and Norfolk as well as a host of other "experts" are not to be believed. The distribution line that was ruptured in Durham was just 2 inches in diameter. This ruptured line killed 1 person, injured at least 15 and caused horrific damage. The pipeline that Chesapeake and Norfolk have had shoved between our homes, churches, businesses and has even placed under the middle of our streets, is a interstate grade, high pressure, 24 inch monster. If this pipeline were to rupture in our crowded urban areas, the resulting casualties and damage would be cataclysmic.
We, the people who are signing this petition, demand that construction be halted and that no gas ever run through this unwanted, unneeded, bad idea of a pipeline.
