Coalition to Save Catalina Island DeerAvalon, CA, United States
Jan 3, 2024

Deer Friends,

Last month we submitted to CDFW our formal request to deny the Catalina Island Conservancy's permit to slaughter all mule deer on the Island. Yesterday we heard back. The short and polite summary is that the CDFW has acknowledged and is considering our input as they continue their review of the Conservancy's application. On the surface, this sounds pretty reasonable. The thing is, we know that CDFW has been working with the Conservancy to green-light this plan for well over a year. If it weren't for ALL OF YOU, this permit likely would have been done and dusted months ago.

If you want to read our CDFW correspondence you can access it via the links below. It's probably going to make you mad. Hold onto that energy and let's channel it into the work ahead. This fight is far from over and we need you with us. Soon we will be sharing very important action items and we need everyone on deck. Please watch your inbox for more details next week.

* Apologies to honorable hunters everywhere for use of the term "aerial hunting" in this document. The author is aware that aerial slaughter is not hunting and does not mean to imply otherwise or to indicate there is honor of any kind in the slaughter by helicopter of animals by her use of the term.
