The Conservancy has scheduled a “forum” to “hear more” about their plan to slaughter mule deer on Catalina Island. They ask interested parties to fill out an online registration form, provide name, phone number, email and mailing address, consent to a privacy policy and liability waiver, and provide questions in advance. As usual, they leave us with more questions than answers. We just sent them the email pasted below and will report back to you as soon as they reply. Don’t hold your breath.
As space is limited, PLEASE REGISTER ASAP using the form (if you are comfortable with that) or via email at RSVP@catalinaconservancy.org.
- If you register using the form and do not feel comfortable providing your address, you may use the Coalition’s mailing address: PO Box 1584, Avalon, CA 90704. Important: Please send us a copy of your registration confirmation to savecatalinadeer@gmail.com.
- If you register via email, a Conservancy representative “will assist you” within three days. In this email, include your complete name, phone number, and whether you will be attending in person, online, and/or require translation services. Important: Please copy us on your email at savecatalinadeer@gmail.com.
Thank you!

Hello Conservancy Representative. I see that you have scheduled a community forum on your restoration project. Can you please answer the following questions for our members? Thank you in advance.
Are you conditioning attendance on submission of one’s address?
Are you conditioning attendance on submission of approved questions? Can people attend if they wish to attend in a listening capacity only? How are you accommodating people who wish to reserve a spot but need more time to craft their questions? If two people submit identical questions, will both be able to attend?
If people are not comfortable signing the privacy policy and liability waiver required for use of your registration form, will their email registration be processed in the order received or only after all of the online registrants are accommodated?
What accommodations for registration are you offering for persons who do not have access to the internet?
What accommodations for registration are you offering to persons who do not speak English?
The use of the term “forum” and promises of a “moderator,” indicate that there will be some opportunity for live questions and answers at the event. Can you confirm?
