The short-beaked common dolphin may be the most neglected large mammal on Earth when it comes to the number killed by human activity.

Thousands of these dolphins are caught and killed in the nets of supertrawlers targeting pelagic fish species such as blue whiting, scad and mackerel in EU waters every year.
