We are asking all petitioners - near and far - to log on and voice our displeasure at the proposed destruction of Walden Square Road with the construction of a 250 foot, 6-story slab of housing that would turn a large chunk our street into a tunnel with parking; not the best place to take your kids out for a walk or to come home to.
Moreover: a second building, nearly as large would rise right next door to an already very large 7-story building with hundreds of units.
Folks: this is not intelligent urban planning. It more than doubles the population density already existent on our street and it adds so much concrete that the area will - in this time of climate change - turn into a heat island. Again: not a good place to raise a family.
Please join us in asking WinnDevelopment to go back to the drawing board and come up with a better plan for affordable housing - and if no better plan can be had, WinnDevelopment must do the right thing and build elsewhere.
Residents of Walden Square have struggled to build a community that works for them, though WinnDevelopment still must meet its promises to improve quality of life. More construction is not the answer, and the folks that live here must have a voice in protecting and preserving the lives they are working so hard to build.
As lead petitioner, I have thrown my hat into the ring and am working to be placed on the ballot to run for city council. Once that step has been achieved I'll be presenting a platform of issues, public housing being one of the most urgent ones, as well as an exploratory process aimed at repealing or stopping the AHO 2.0. But more on that later!
