I am writing to you about the invisible war happening in your homes, your schools, and your hospitals.

We know that millions of Canadian homes built before 1990 are filled with asbestos. It is in the walls where your children sleep and the basements where you store your memories. It is a silent killer.

And standing between you and that killer are the Workers.

My brothers and sisters in this trade are heroes. They walk into environments more toxic than a power plant. They suit up, they sweat, and they use their skill to contain the poison so your family never has to breathe it. They know exactly what to do. They are professionals who put their lives on the line every single day.

But the Government refuses to recognize them.

By keeping the 253W Abatement Journeyman a Non-Compulsory trade, our government is telling these skilled workers that their lives—and your safety—do not matter enough to warrant full professional status.

The government is the one allowing the "Wild West." They are the ones allowing a system where the most dangerous trade in construction is treated as a casual gig. They are stripping the dignity from the worker and the safety from the homeowner.

It is a national disgrace.

The workers are ready. We have the skills. We have the courage. But we are fighting with one hand tied behind our backs because the system refuses to enforce the standards that would keep everyone safe.

When the government refuses to make this trade compulsory, they aren't just disrespecting the worker; they are gambling with the public's health. They are letting the "Ghost Workers" disappear into the dust, leaving families vulnerable to a threat that should have been managed by recognized professionals years ago.

This beautiful nation of ours is built on the backs of its tradespeople. It is time the government stopped hiding behind bureaucracy and started recognizing the people who save lives for a living.

Make 253W Compulsory. Recognize the worker. Protect the public.
