We are looking at this as a safety regulation, also we should be looking at it as an Economic Stimulus Package.

When we make the 253W Hazardous Materials Ticket compulsory, we are not just 'protecting workers.' We are birthing an entirely new industry in Ontario. We are taking a shadow economy of cash jobs and temporary labour, and we are transforming it into a tax-paying, skilled-trade powerhouse.

Friends, when we make 253W compulsory, we don't just create work for the hands; we create work for the minds. We are building a 'Safety Ecosystem' that employs scientists, teachers, administrators, and surveyors. These are the sustainable, middle-class jobs that support the Green Economy. Compulsory isn't just about the person in the suit. It is about building an Environmental Safety Industry. For every one worker removing asbestos, we need a surveyor to find it, a scientist to test it, a driver to haul it, and a trainer to teach it. This is a job-creation machine."
