The Issue

Have you been to Aruba and noticed stray dogs everywhere? Have you taken a drive off the resorts and seen emaciated, dirty dogs or mama dogs with their starving babies? There’s so many more dogs and cats in squalor away from the resorts!! Well this is why this petition was started.

MY GOAL is to spread awareness about the terrible conditions for animals in Aruba and to bring about change. In Aruba, laws are not enforced and there are no sanctions against abusing, neglecting or even killing cats and dogs. Away from the resorts and other tourist spots is complete animal squalor. Emaciated dogs wander the streets. Female dogs are attacked by packs of dogs around the clock when they are in heat. People have 10+ dogs that are allowed to wander the streets. Hungry dogs attack other animals for food. Mama dogs and their babies are dumped and forced to live in the wild. Dogs in tourist areas disappear. Animals are poisoned and have hot oil thrown on them. Dogs with owners neglect and starve their pets. Police get called and nothing is done.  Not all neglect and abuse can be proven but many many many cases can, and nothing is done!!!

There’s so much that could be done that wouldn’t cost the government any money. The government needs to know that they will lose tourists over their negligence and uncaring!!!

This was Khaleesi  Khaleesi’s owner had her tied up with chains and ties so tight, for so long, that they had cut into her skin and even her esophagus. She gave birth to puppies on this chain and was nursing them upon her rescue. Her “owner” received community service, and I strongly believe it was ONLY because this case went global!

This was another dog with an “owner” that was so anemic that he was hemorrhaging from his nose. He was put down and his owners did not get into trouble. Police actually went to the home and did nothing.

mama dogs like this are seen all over the island (of course not next to the tourist areas)

Poor dogs like this are attacked because dogs are hungry and fight for food, or they’re intact and fight over females or food.

Dogs get hot oil thrown on them if they are hanging around restaurants and the restaurant owners can’t get rid of them

Dogs are abandoned and they live amongst the cactus where they are almost eaten alive by ticks

This pup died due to the severity of his injuries which were from hot oil being thrown on him. People drove by him like this for who knows how long. It was not until he was posted on fb that he was put out of his suffering.

This baby was chopped with a machete and left for dead

This mama gave birth and was left in the wild without food or any protection

This poor pup had a terrible case of mange due to not being cared for.

What so many of the dogs look like because their owners either don’t spay/neuter their dogs which leads to over reproduction and not having funds to live and take care of their pets.

Another mama with her babies living in the wild

This puppy was found with his dead mama that he was eating  The mama was poisoned and died which then caused this baby to also be poisoned

Did you know?

Up to 508 puppies can be born from an unspayed female and her offspring in 7 years?
Up to 4,948 kittens can be born from one unspayed female cat and her offspring in 7 years.

Aruba is said to have between 30,000-40,000 (I believe it’s much higher!!) stray and semi-stray dogs and cats.  Compared to a human population of about 105,000, this estimate is concerning. Puppies can no longer be rescued and flown to the US because of new CDC guidelines requiring pups to wait until they’re six months to fly. Often times by the time they’re six months, they are too big to fly as a carry on. Flying dogs in cargo is possible but costs more and flights are limited.

Even with all of the fabulous foundations on the island, the mistreatment, abandonment, abuse, and neglect of these animals is rampant!  Foundations are constantly full and nowhere near enough is being done to fix the issue!!!

People aren’t held accountable for the mistreatment and abandonment of their pets. There’s no consequences. Animals are abandoned, left unsourced and unneutered, and hungry!!! Dogs and puppies are literally consumed by ticks to the point that they are so anemic and weak. Pregnant dogs are dumped where no one will find them, puppies wander the streets and are run over like rodents. People poison their pets and street dogs to get rid of them. Some dogs are burned with hot liquid or worse. Hungry puppies have tried eating their dead mamas, which in turn cause them to be poisoned. Puppies are stolen from their mothers when they still need the mother.  ALL THESE EXAMPLES ARE REAL LIFE EVERYDAY HAPPENINGS IN ARUBA.

Dogs left in these conditions will do what they need to do in order to survive.

The Arubian government has worked with the previously known “kill cage” but so much more could he done. There’s so much more awareness, accountability and educating that should be happening!!!!! People need to spay and neuter their pets so they can afford to take care of their families including their pets

Help us to take a stand against the barbaric treatment of dogs and animals and tell the government that the tourists they so heavily rely on will not stand for this!!! Help us to put more pressure on the government to ensure these barbaric acts are not without severe consequences.  Let’s also bring awareness that Aruba’s tourists have and are affected by this terrible treatment and it’s causing less people to visit.

Please help us come together and bring global awareness and change to this madness!
