Stop the school board from closing Nisley Elementary

The Issue

As many of you have heard, the D51 school board has recommended the closure of Nisley Elementary School at the end of the school year. This would be devastating to the community that Nisley serves. As a school in an underserved area, this is the only stability that the children it serves have. There are many in the Nisley area that do not have a car, and being that the children would be split up and shipped to schools further out would place an undo burden on these families that rely on being close to their neighborhood school. For the families that live close to 29 Road specifically, it would be incredibly dangerous to have children waiting to catch busses, as it is a major thouroughfare in which drivers often do not follow appropriate speed limits. Let it also be known that the Grand Junction community voted overwhelmingly to support two bond measures for school improvements. Closing a schools is not a good way to say thank you to the community for support.  Lastly, we really need to consider the mental health of our children who will be forced to leave their friends and teachers that have nurtured them and helped shape them. Please consider signing the petition so that we can send the message to the school board that we value our neighborhood school and that closing it would have a devastating impact on the community that it serves.
