The Issue

My daughter used to be a lively and joyful child before she became a victim of relentless bullying at her school in the Schenectady School District. For two years, she has suffered in silence while the very authorities supposed to protect her turned a blind eye. The situation spiraled out of control, and as a parent who's seen my once happy child sink into depression and seek therapy, this is heart-wrenching.

The most shocking part is that when she finally stood up for herself, defending herself as any child would in desperation, the school district’s response was to punish her. They have decided to suspend her for 75 days, a grossly unjust punishment that will not only affect her education but also her well-being. She will miss critical milestones: her moving-up ceremony and the start of her new school year.

This isn't just about one child; it's about a systemic issue where victims are punished instead of being protected. The Schenectady School District has known about the bullying and chose inaction, leaving children like my daughter unsafe. This negligence is appalling and it's time we demand change.

Join me in calling for a thorough review of the Schenectady School District’s anti-bullying policies. We must push for the school to implement effective measures that protect our children instead of punishing them for defending themselves. Policies should include regular training for teachers and staff on how to recognize and address bullying effectively, and a clear protocol to support victims immediately.

We need to hold the district accountable for its failure to safeguard our children and ensure such injustices do not continue. Stand with us to demand that no other child experiences the same neglect and unfair treatment. Please sign this petition to stop the Schenectady School District from enabling bullying and start providing a safe, nurturing environment for all students.
