Stop the Sale of Rabbits at Feeders Supply Stores Nationwide

Stop the Sale of Rabbits at Feeders Supply Stores Nationwide
The Issue
In America, it is estimated that more than 75% of rabbits in pet stores die or are abandoned within their first year due to improper care. Over time, I have observed several Feeders Supply stores selling rabbits that are neglected and lacking the care they need to live a happy, healthy life. How are people supposed to know how to properly care for these animals, if the pet stores can't? A tiny box without abundant food or proper necessities shouldn't be anyone's home, and yet this is the reality for the rabbits at Feeders Supply.
Their living conditions are not only cruel, but they also pose significant health risks to the rabbits. This neglect falls significantly short of the recommended care guidelines established by the House Rabbit Society in the US (HRS). According to the HRS, rabbits should have a living space large enough for them to move freely and perform their natural behaviors, as well as a proper diet to maintain their health and longevity. In fact, confinement in small spaces leads to obesity, weakened muscles, and poor bone density in rabbits. Additionally, Feeders Supply uses pine bedding, which has been proven to cause liver damage in rabbits, they are provided with water in bottles, which causes dental issues, and they are not given fresh greens, which are a significant part of a rabbits diet.
When families bring home rabbits from a pet store, they will likely mimic the care or lack-there-of that is displayed in these pet stores. Because they don't know any different, these animals are being neglected and abandoned by their adopters as well. Many times, when they realize that rabbits are not low-maintenance pets , they are dumped and left to fend for themselves in the wild. These domesticated rabbits will NOT survive on their own.
Recently, over 50,000 people signed a petition in hopes that PetCo would ban the sale of rabbits in their stores nationwide. PetCo released a statement last month saying they heard the people's concerns and will no longer sell rabbits. Hence, this petition seeks national attention to ban the sale of rabbits across all Feeders Supply stores. I have contacted them multiple times and have been assured that someone will reach out to discuss my concerns, but I've yet to be contacted.
We hope to put an end to such inhumane practices and advocate for the fair treatment of not only rabbits, but all innocent creatures under their care. I urge Feeders Supply to promote adoption with local rescues and shelters, instead of selling and directly contributing to the rabbit abandonment crisis. Please sign this petition to join us in this pursuit for change.
