The Issue

Access to public land should be important to everyone! Whatever activities you are into—hiking, mountain biking, hunting, fishing, or just going for a walk to clear your head—public lands exist for everyone. These natural sanctuaries provide spaces for recreation, exploration, and tranquility. They are the fabric of our communities and essential to preserving our quality of life.

Alarmingly, there is an increasing trend where our cherished public lands are being sold to private entities. This not only threatens our access to these spaces but also jeopardizes the environment and wildlife habitats. When public lands are sold, they often become developed, barring the public from enjoying them while diminishing ecological diversity.

In the United States alone, millions of acres of public land have already been sold off, often with little public consultation. This is not just stripping away our right to enjoy nature but also empowering wealthier individuals and corporations to profit at the expense of the community and the environment. A report from the Government Accountability Office highlighted that over 2.5 million acres have been lost in recent decades, reducing public access and recreational opportunities.

It's essential to draw a line and halt this trend to protect these irreplaceable lands from falling into private hands. Rather than selling public land to the highest bidder, we should prioritize sustainable management and conservation efforts, ensuring these lands can be enjoyed by future generations.

We must act now to prevent the sale of public lands and advocate for policies that prioritize conservation and public enjoyment. Let's urge our policymakers to protect these national treasures and halt any further sales to private entities.

Please sign this petition to show your support in preserving public lands for the enjoyment and benefit of all.
