The Issue

Public land belongs to each and every American citizen. It is where we go to work, play, and explore. It provides critical habitat for plants and wildlife. It's where we grow our food and get clean water. These lands support ranching, logging, tourism, recreation, mining and other vital industries. They are a vital part of American life, intended to be accessible to all. Our public lands are one of our greatest assets, not just for us as citizens who enjoy this land but as a strong and beautiful country.

Now, there is a growing threat to this invaluable inheritance. Congress is considering selling these public lands, allowing private interests to take over and exploit what should remain in public hands. This decision would mean less access for American citizens and fewer natural spaces for future generations.  They are proposing that approximately 2-3 million acres be mandated to be sold in the next 5 years, with 90% of the revenue contributing to the national debt.

These lands are essential for conserving wildlife, driving economic activity through recreation and tourism, and nurturing our planet's wellbeing by maintaining ecosystems and biodiversity.

The sale of our public lands would devastate local economies dependent on these lands for sustainable activities, that generate billions in economic value every year. By selling our lands, Congress would not only erase our treasured places, but also demolish livelihoods.

We must act now to protect our American heritage, our economy, and our land. Congress needs to hear from us loud and clear: Our public lands are not for sale. They must remain in public hands, available to all citizens and future generations to enjoy and cherish.

Join us in urging Congress to oppose any efforts to privatize our public lands. Stand up for the land that belongs to us all, for our communities, our environment, and our future. Sign this petition today and help stop the sale of our public lands.
