The Issue

Every year, despite the "Fireworks are illegal in Tacoma" signs prominently displayed, there is still rampant use of fireworks in our community without any enforcement. This is deeply personal for me because my cats, along with my neighbors' pets, are severely frightened by the loud noises. The booms and blasts aren't just an inconvenience—they pose a genuine threat to the well-being of our beloved animals, and they disrupt our sleep and peace of mind.

Moreover, the use of fireworks introduces a very real danger of fires, particularly during dry seasons when our natural landscapes are more susceptible to flames. Our homes and natural habitats are constantly at risk each time someone decides to illegally celebrate with fireworks. We should not have to live in fear of a potential disaster every Fourth of July or New Year's Eve.

Pierce County has already taken the right step by recognizing the risks associated with fireworks through their ban in Tacoma. However, without proper enforcement, the law remains ineffective and our safety continues to be compromised. The solution is clear: strict enforcement of existing fireworks laws and a county-wide ban on the sale of fireworks.

By preventing the sale of fireworks in Pierce County, we can significantly reduce the availability and, consequently, the illegal use of these hazardous items. This can be accomplished through coordinated efforts between local law enforcement, the fire department, and public awareness campaigns.

Let's stand together as a community to ensure that our pets are protected, our nights are peaceful, and our environment is safe from the threat of fire. Sign this petition to demand action and hold county officials accountable for enforcing the existing ban and expanding it to the sale of fireworks throughout Pierce County.
