Stop the Sale of Armadale

Stop the Sale of Armadale
The Issue
We, Clan Donald family members and the Sleat community are alarmed and deeply distressed by the sudden and unexpected sale of our ancestral lands by the Clan Donald Lands Trust (CDLT). This sale, conducted without alerting the affected community or the world's stakeholders, is more than just an act of injustice; it strikes at the very heart of our community, heritage, and livelihoods. The Armadale lands have been their homes for generations. The CDLT was designated as a Charitable Trust to preserve the ancestry of our Clan and to support our community, reflecting the traditional values and spirit of Scotland.
The ongoing sale feels eerily reminiscent of the Scottish clearances of 1750-1860, a dark period in our history when people were forced to abandon their homes and livelihoods. Now, farmers, crofters, and land preservationists, who have lived on these lands for generations, will be evicted from their ancestral home for the sake of profit. The community, rooted in these lands, is facing a threat of unemployment and numerous other severe consequences.
We understand the claim of the Trustees, that the proceeds might go towards good causes. However, this should not come at the expense of the reason why the Trust was established: to safeguard our ancestry and the community. Trustees, who do not carry Scotland in their everyday lives, should not have the capacity to disrupt the harmonious balance that has existed there for centuries.
We urge the CDLT to halt the immediate sale of our lands, allowing us the time and right to explore viable options for their preservation. For the ancestry we honor, for the people we represent, and for the continuation of our traditions and livelihoods, we implore you to sign this petition. Help us keep the heart of our history beating.
