Stop the Sale of Animals on TikTok

Stop the Sale of Animals on TikTok
The Issue
Hello, nice to meet you. My name is Claudia. I wrote this petition to urge TikToks CEO, Mr. Shou Zi Chew to ban the sale of animals on Tiktok immediately. Launched in 2017, with nearly 2 billion users in over 160 countries ( 150 million in the U.S.), TikTok generated more than $16 billion in 2023. TikTok has become a hub for irresponsible breeders. Every day more animals are sold through this platform, contributing significantly to pet overpopulation. Backyard breeders are among the largest contributors to this issue nationwide. Their practices not only lead to surplus animals but also often result in poor health conditions for these pets due to inadequate care and breeding methods. The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) estimates that approximately 1.5 million shelter animals are euthanized each year in America alone (ASPCA). Let that number sink in, 1.5 million . That's more than the entire population of the state of Wyoming and the entire population of the state of Vermont combined ( U.S. Census 2020 Wyoming total pop 576, 851 Vermont total pop 643, 077 ) This heartbreaking statistic underscores the urgency of addressing pet overpopulation at its source - irresponsible breeding practices. allowing backyard breeders to operate on its platform, TikTok indirectly contributes to this crisis. We urge TikTok not only take responsibility but also take action by banning the sale of animals on their platform immediately. But this is not just a plea; it's an urgent call for change rooted in compassion and justice for all living beings who cannot speak up for themselves. Please sign and share my petition today demanding that TikTok stop facilitating animal sales through its platform. Your support is greatly appreciated.
