Stop the Sale and Domestic Imprisonment of Birds in Cages

The Issue

As a fervent believer in animal rights and freedom, I am deeply concerned about the inhumane practice of keeping birds caged as pets. This practice is similar to a human being confined to a room for their whole life, only in the bird's case, they are completely innocent.

Born to fly and roam in the open sky, caging birds denies them their natural right to freedom of movement. It mutates their natural behavior, causing them undue stress and harm. Unlike some pets like dogs who have been domesticated over centuries for mutual benefits, such as providing therapy, search and rescue aid, birds, particularly exotic birds, have no history or logical rationale for domestication.

It is estimated that there are millions of pet birds in the U.S alone, most of whom live in small cages, suffering from consistently inadequate care (American Pet Products Association, 2018).

Our campaign's aim is to end the sales of birds for pet purposes and discourage everyone from keeping birds in cages. Giving this respect and kindness to our feathered friends should be our moral obligation, not a choice. This petition is not only about the well-being of birds; it is also about what we, as a society, accept as ethical treatment towards all living beings. We call upon lawmakers to enact legislation banning the sale and domestic imprisonment of birds in cages. Please, sign this petition to set them free and let them fly!
