The new draft Quadra McKenzie Plan (QMP) January 2026 version is back for review and vote at the Saanich Council meeting on Monday January 19th 2026 , starting at 6.30pm. Please attend if you can to support Save Our Saanich speakers. IMPORTANT: send emails to Mayor and Council this weekend if possible. Apparently they have only received a few emails so far, so your comments will have an impact! Saanich's link to the revised QMP is now back online after some days of a broken link, hence this short notice to you.
The QMP hiatus while public “re-engagement” took place resulted in very few actual changes to the plan, so many of us are still against it proceeding as shown. The interim version of the QMP actually increased some density from 18 to 24 storeys. On the current Council meeting agenda is a motion to now reduce those 24 storey towers back to 18. This will look like a “win” for lower density but only because Saanich increased it in the first place!
On Saanich Council’s agenda is the following: “To endorse in principle the proposed Quadra McKenzie Plan, direct staff to prepare the necessary Official Community Plan Bylaw amendments to incorporate the Plan into the bylaw and bring these changes forward to a public hearing”.
Most holders of public elected office run on a platform of “listening to the residents”. Be sure your voice is heard by these same elected officials. Ask them:
Are they willing to table the QMP until the Municipal elections in October 2026? Would they be prepared to run on the QMP as an election issue? How many times must we inform you that we are against this plan?
At the upcoming January 19th Council meeting, the current Mayor and Council will be reminded of this Petition which over 5000 of you have signed. A plea for lower density and a more thoughtful development process based on reality and not ideology. We hope to see some of you there in person to support us as we try for a solution which respects the present as we plan for the future.
